Post subject:  The Rules

I must apologize, I simply must BIND this community, for I, even though I trust you all, must state some guidelines. I do not want riot, chaos, or misery: simply the capacity to decide whether something is right or wrong. One must understand this to succeed. It is vital that we all follow these guidelines, or else... punishments will be prompt.

1. Playing With Fire

Seriously. Be nice. We're old enough to know the difference between critical, and just plain stupid. And flaming: that's the latter. If you have to critique someone, be nice about it: don't just take a list of every aspect and destroy it with frivolous evidence. Perhaps encourage to do better, and positively give a criticism.

Examples of BAD criticism (or flaming):
Quote:
I hate you. This is stupid, and every part about it just plain dumb. There are no words to describe its absolute wretchedness. Get off the internet. Have a good life. I hope it's a short one.

Examples of GOOD criticism:
Quote:
Well. First off, I would like to say it is quite an attempt for a first-timer, but there a few things that you could work on. The most important being the amount of detail put in. I'm sure you could have put a few more minutes into it's work, maybe add some more here and there. But I did find your design well thought out. Good luck on your future endeavors.

2. Recalling Elementary School

The internet: a place where individuals can take up anonymous roles to be a different person. But I find it disturbing that some, actually: many go back to the basis of elementary school on the internet. Spelling communicates answers more clearly, as does grammar. Without these two, the world would run a muck: destroyed by the clear ideas of simplicity. Sure, a mistake or two can run free, but don't write without clarity. Focus your ideas, emphasize points.

Examples of BAD spelling:
Quote:
i r hs porblim wift ma cmputr. i gt on muni 2 py fir it. plese halp meh.

Examples of GOOD spelling:
Quote:
I have a problem with my computer. I have no money to pay for it, so can people help me fix this problem?

Examples of BAD grammar:
Quote:
Well I dont have no ability to run this thing because it doesnt work without the stuff I need but I dont have that stuff so its really stupid so can I have help from you guys because I need it really really really really really really bad seriously seriously.

Examples of GOOD grammar:
Quote:
Well, I don't have the ability to run this thing because it doesn't work with out the stuff I need. Because of this, I find it really stupid. Can somebody please help me because I need it really badly. Seriously now.

3. Do it for the Children

No/Minimal swearing. Case closed. No illicit material. No racism, or discrimination. No matter how incredibly shocking or new it is. No showing of male, female, or any form of reproductive organs as well. Seriously: we're not /b/. That said: seriousness is also important.

4. The Cops: They're After Us

Also, no discussion of illegal material. This following standard American laws and regulations. There will be no discussion (or action) of illegal downloads of software, distribution of CD keys, giving away CIA passwords, removing this website off your bookmarks, and anything that can get this site in any trouble. I don't like the police. Sometimes they're not nice.

5. Bump. Bumpity Bump. Bump, Bump, and BUMP!

Double posting is not promoted. Double posting is defined as posting twice, or more, times in a row in a thread: simply to get a message across or to bump. Speaking of bumping: the international bump law states that a bump can only occur after 2 days. The quote-in-quote, "Two-Day Bump Rule." If you are making a list that will continue to grow, do not simply post again. Either edit the last post (if it is yours) or simply wait till somebody posts after you have to post again. Note: administrators and moderators may double post if the situation permits.

6. Desperate People Do Desperate Things

First off, do not panic. Calm down. Prepare your actions. Check Google. Write a good thread, and give as much information as possible. Check other websites or other threads for more information. If none exist, start collecting data. The answer may be more simple than you think. Clearly address the problem, and show things you have tried. This will increase the chance of a more positive reply, and will not get you punished.

Examples of a BAD question:
Quote:
Help me. Help me. Help me. It's all bad. Help. HELP! HELP! AH!

Examples of a GOOD question:
Quote:
Yesterday, I had a system crash that resulted in BSOD. After the crash, when I re-booted, the system loaded slowly, and now my computer lags. I have checked Microsoft, and my manufacturer. They have not found any problem. The system error log is as followed...

7. SPAM: Silence is Golden, Duct Tape is Silver

No matter how delicious, it is simply not allowed. It is irritating and simply gets in the way. Simply, don't. We don't care that you have to build a thread for every time the president gives a speech. Even if it involves free money. In that case, just tell me. Oh, and SPAM is defined as posting of useless content or advertising.

8. The Bird Is The Word

The bird is NOT the word. Seriously. Word things right. For a thread about chickens, do not talk about cake. Keep on topic, and name it right. Simple and easy.

9. Keeping Content

Try to post at least a few lines of content in a thread. Simply stating something does not cut. Why would somebody want to talk about something, and only take a very small part in it. Post enough to justify your opinion and validate that you want to actually discuss something. It's easy, just type. Typing is the whole point, eh? That is key. No sniping either. That means no "first" post or similar.

10. Don't Break Rules.

Violators will be shot. Further violators will be shot again. And if that doesn't kill you. You'll be banned. In front of EVERYBODY!

That's the rules. I know: ten may seem like a lot, but it's vital. Enjoy. Ha ha ha. :lolwut:

3. Do it for the Children

What about that one time ABC posted that old comic covered in the f-word? And you never deleted it :um:
